M 106
Messier 106 (also known as NGC 4258) is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. M106 is at a distance of about 22 to 25 million light-years away from Earth. It is also a Seyfert II galaxy. Due to x-rays and unusual emission lines detected, it …

NGC 2174 Monkey Head nebula
NGC 2174 (also known as Monkey Head Nebula) is an H II[1] emission nebula located in the constellation Orion and is associated with the open star cluster NGC 2175. It is thought to be located about 6,400 light-years away from Earth. The nebula may have formed through hierarchical collapse. This is the first time I …

Veil Nebula mosaic (3-panel)
This is a mosaic of three panels of the Veil nebula, done in summer 2014. It was a really though job, considering the bad weather we had. ANyway, each panel has a total of about 8 exposures for each LRGB channel, each of 10 minutes time. (so 16 hours of data). I had not enough …

M 33 (Whirlpool/Triangulum Galaxy)
The triangulum galaxy was a first try with some longer post-processing. Particularily I had some issues with gradients wich complicated my life severely 😛 [tableT caption=”Object details”] Center (RA):, 01h 33m 51.302s Center (Dec):, +30° 39′ 04.014″ Apparent size:, 36.5 x 36.5 arcmin Pixel scale:, 0.54 arcsec/pixel Orientation:, Up is -100 degrees E of N …

First try at a mosaic: Veil Nebula
A first test to make a mosaic in Pixinsight. Not too bad, being this a 2-panel mosaic of Luminance images – made up of just a few exposures. [table caption=”Image data”] Target, NGC 6992 (mosaic) Date, 18 July; 2 and 15 August 2014 Images, Luminance; two panels Optics, Cassegrain f/9 20″ @3550mm Mount:, ASA DDM85XL …

NGC 6992 (Veil Nebula)
After a longer wait for good weather I was finally able to do a decent stack of very few images of the Veil nebula. Among the images we had the first 10 minute-long subexposures! NGC 4565
Ok guys, finally we have a first light from our scope system. We had to fiddle with some problems with the camera (the shutter wasn’t closing all the way), but now it seems to work pretty well. Some minor collimation adjustment, and some tweaks to cool the mirrors faster, and everything should be fine.
